ANNA SHAPIRO. BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY
Director • Film Editor • Screenwriter
Anna Shapiro is a director and film editor working at the intersection of documentary, fiction, and video art. She was trained in Moscow and New York (High Courses for Scriptwriters and Film Directors; School of Visual Arts). For over twenty years, she has been directing and editing documentary films, fiction short films, video art works, as well as numerous trailers and promotional campaigns for television channels and cultural institutions.
She has collaborated with institutions such as the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts, the Erarta Museum of Contemporary Art, and Channel One Russia, where she received Promax and Media Brand awards.
In fiction, she co-wrote and developed the feature film project Downward Spiral (shortlisted for the Sundance Writing Lab 2016). Her short films Derailed, Applause, and Matches have received awards at international festivals. She worked as lead editor on the documentary feature When I Get Jailed, which premiered at IDFA in the Frontlight section in 2025 and continues to receive invitations from major international film festivals. She lives and works in Belgium.
